But I don’t know how…

I’ve said this before when asked to dance a particular type of dance such as the Texas Two-Step or some other specialty dance. But what about “The Wobble”, “The Cupid Shuffle”, or other fun line dances?

You may be excited to learn that just about every specialty dance you can think of has an instructional video available online. A fairly (still) popular group line dance at weddings is “The Wobble”. This one’s pretty innocuous and won’t strain your thigh muscles terribly, in fact this one barely qualifies as exercise LOL! I’ve collected a short list of dances that every wedding reception crowd should know or get familiar with.

The Wobble

This dance features repetitive movements that include arm sways, hip sashays, a jump forwards, a jump backward, and a rotation of position 90 degrees.

The Cupid Shuffle

This dance features repetitive movements that include on-beat steps to the right, steps to the left, alternating leg-extensions on-beat, followed by a hula rotation of the hips and position 90 degrees.

The Cha-Cha Slide

This dance features a sequence of moves that are dictated by the song in a “Simon says” fashion. It involves clapping on-beat, single stomps of the right and left leg, slides, a four-count cha-cha, and the potential for other moves such as a criss-cross (scissor) jump step. This hilarious instructional video should get you on the right track 🙂

There are other line dances and group participation dances and some of these are considered passé, but they include Electric Slide, Apache (Jump On It), Macarena, and The Whip.

Two other dances make the list of fun dances that may be featured in receptions that having a country music playlist.

Cotton-Eyed Joe

I consider this dance a must for country line dances and beginners will have fun trying to keep up! This dance involves alternating leg extensions, heel stomps, lasso gestures, “raise the roof” gestures and repeat.

The Git-Up

This dance is somewhat instructional but follows a general pattern in common country line dances. It can be involved and the team from Dirt Road Dancing put together a nice tutorial if you dare to take this dance on!
